What's Your Plan?

Group Study Week 3 – Your plan (Days 8-14)

Objective: To establish your plan

It is one thing to identify your vision, but the rubber starts to hit the road when you develop your plan.  And things definitely accelerate when you begin to implement your plan.

Quite honestly, effective planning is not easy. You not only have to think about the things that need to get done but also the time and resources needed.  Planning also has to do with eliminating extraneous activities and patterns of behavior that divert you from your vision. Plans have to be comprehensive, yet simple. In other words, avoid ‘definition creep.’ Plans deal with specifics. What exactly is it that you are trying to do and for whom? Where will you do it? What organization do you need? Finances? This week we will focus on these dynamics.

3        Exercises:

3.1  Group leader gives opening thoughts.

3.2  Spend a few minutes on your own to answer the following questions:

·         Go back through your notebook and review the answers you have written for Days 8 to 14. What question was the most difficult to answer and why?

·         Do you feel your vision statement is stated in a way that captures both the importance of what you are doing and the passion you feel for it?

·         What patterns and routines are you going to have to deal with to achieve your vision?

·         Specifically, where is your vision going to take place, who is it for, and what administrative and organizational factors do you need consider?

·         What are the financial implications for implementing your vision?

3.3  Break up into groups of two and share your answers. The other person will act as a consultant and confidant and will ask you questions about your answers to the above questions. Then reverse roles, spending between ten to fifteen minutes for each person.

3.4  Meet back in the larger group and share any insights you’ve gained.

·         What did you learn through this exercise?

·         Is everyone in the group confident about their vision statement?

·         Share what patterns of behavior you need to  change in order to achieve your vision. How are they the same or different from person to person?

·         What can you share with the group about how and where your vision will be implemented?

·         Share the financial issues you will have to face and how you can begin to work through them. Do other group members have any ideas?

3.5 During the following week work through Days 14 to 21 in this book.
